Bielle on Marie-Galante is one of the three working distilleries on the island. Sources disagree on its date: one gives 1980, another a late nineteenth-century origin on a former coffee estate belonging to the Bielle family. It makes agricole rhum from cane juice grown on the island, and its annual output is cited at about 330,000 litres. Production includes high-proof whites and aged rhums.
