Caroni was the distillery attached to the state sugar company in central Trinidad, closing in 2003 along with the sugar operation. Its stocks stayed in Trinidad, were aged in tropical conditions and later sold to independent bottlers, including through the Italian importer Velier. The late releases, now commanding high prices, are known for a heavy tarry style. The founding year and exact site are approximate.
