The distillery was set up in 2008 by the Couacaud family on their Domaine de Chamarel estate, in a valley about 300 metres above sea level in the south-west of the island. It makes a fresh cane juice rum from cane grown at the estate and sells white, aged and spiced bottlings, plus a visitor restaurant and tasting rooms. It is one of the newer Mauritian houses, and one of those making agricole rather than molasses rum.
