Angostura is best known for aromatic bitters, created in 1824, but it also runs the rum distillery at Laventille, Port of Spain, which began distilling in the late 1940s. It relies on column stills and makes clean, relatively light rums aged in used bourbon barrels. It owns a minority stake in St Lucia Distillers and has been under shifting corporate ownership over the years.
