Mohan Meakin's origins are traced to 1855, when Edward Dyer set up a brewery at Solan; the company later moved its operations to Ghaziabad near Delhi. Old Monk, a dark, sweet vanilla rum, was launched in 1954 and became one of the most widely bought spirits in India. Cheaper versions are aged for a minimum of years in oak and sold at standard and 7 year strengths. The Ghaziabad site is a large industrial plant, and the coordinates here are approximate.
